Thermal & Infrared
Measure temperature across your entire product, not just a few points
Infrared cameras measure the full thermal field of a part under load, and synchronize with mechanical measurement so heat and strain can be read against each other.
Overview
Thermocouples Don't Provide the Full Picture
Contact temperature sensors give you a reading where you placed them. If a hotspot develops somewhere else, if heat migrates along a joint, or if a fatigue crack starts to dissipate energy before it becomes visible, a point sensor will not see it.
Trilion deploys Telops and InfraTec infrared cameras to record the entire surface temperature field, at frame rates high enough to follow fast thermal events, and synchronized with the mechanical measurement chain so thermal and structural behaviour line up in time.
Cameras
Telops, Flir or InfraTec: We Match Your Needs to the Right Camera
Telops FAST V60, M3k and HD-IR cover the high-speed and high-sensitivity end, where thermal events move quickly or where small temperature differences carry the signal. The InfraTec ImageIR series and VarioCAM HD cover high-resolution thermography for larger fields of view and longer duration tests.
At Trilion, our sensor choice is driven by the physics of your test: waveband, integration time, thermal resolution and field of view all change what is measurable.

Applications
High strain rate: the split Hopkinson bar
A split Hopkinson pressure bar loads a specimen in microseconds, far faster than a conventional frame. Pairing high-speed imaging and infrared with ARAMIS Optical Strain captures the strain field and the heat generated as the material yields, in the same event.
Applications
Electronics and PCB thermal inspection
Boards and packages fail thermally long before they fail structurally. Full-field infrared finds the hotspot, the marginal joint, and the component running outside its envelope while the board is powered, across the whole assembly rather than at a probe point. See electronics and consumer goods.
Applications
t.Thermal: A Fully Controlled and Integrated Chamber
Many materials only reveal their real behaviour at temperature. The Trilion thermal chamber holds a specimen at a controlled temperature while optical access is preserved, so full-field strain and thermal measurement continue through the test rather than stopping at the chamber wall.
Common in composites, polymers, and alloy qualification work across aerospace and automotive programs. We also run these tests for you through offsite lab services.
Partnership
Thermo-mechanical simulation: the Gleeble partnership
The Gleeble thermo-mechanical simulation system reproduces the heating, deformation and cooling a material actually sees in forming, welding and heat treatment, on a specimen rather than on a production line.
The Gleeble 3500-GTC reaches temperatures up to 3000 C and heating rates up to 10,000 C per second under direct resistance heating, with mechanical loading applied through the same cycle. That combination is what lets a lab reproduce a weld thermal cycle, a hot rolling pass, or a heat-affected zone and then measure what the material did.
Adding optical strain and infrared measurement to a Gleeble test turns a process simulation into measured, full-field data you can compare against a model. See material testing, or the Gleeble 3500 specifications.
